The new Android threat has hit over 140 countries around the world. The pest has been dubbed FlyTrap, or "flycatcher". How to avoid it?

The malware works by stealing cookies used during the session, and it is based on social engineering. It promises all kinds of rewards, discount coupons or promotional shopping opportunities. Which is nothing new, but it may be surprising that people still fall for the same tricks. More precisely - over 10,000 people in 144 countries around the world were fooled. Of course, the promised benefits were not realized by anyone, instead they unknowingly gave their Facebook login details. The data was not stolen, but a script was injected which then collected all information about the user. They were sent to a comand and control (C2) server controlled by cyber criminals.

The script steals cookies, location information, device IP, etc. Importantly - the researchers managed to find a database with stolen data on the network. Was it displayed to show hackers' agility or for other criminals to use the information they had obtained? We do not know this yet. However, we remind you once again not to believe in amazing promotions and approach the services and websites that require Facebook login details with very limited confidence.
