Punjab Announces New School Timings and Holiday Policy

On Saturday, the Punjab government unveiled a new policy that will significantly alter school schedules across the province. Effective August 15, all schools in Punjab will observe holidays on both Saturdays and Sundays, as announced by the Department of School Education Punjab.

This policy aims to reduce teachers' workloads and establish a more balanced work environment. The updated schedule introduces a change in the operational days and timings for schools, with a focus on enhancing the efficiency of the educational system.

New School Timings for Students

Single-Shift Schools:

• Monday to Thursday: 8:00 AM to 1:30 PM
• Friday: 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM

Double-Shift/Afternoon Schools:

• Monday to Thursday:

  • Morning Shift: 8:00 AM to 12:30 PM
  • Afternoon Shift: 1:00 PM to 5:30 PM

• Friday:

  • Morning Shift: 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM
  • Afternoon Shift: 2:30 PM to 5:30 PM

Revised Working Hours for Teachers

Single-Shift Schools:

• Monday to Thursday: 8:00 AM to 3:00 PM
• Friday: 8:00 AM to 12:30 PM

Double-Shift/Afternoon Schools:

• Monday to Thursday:

  • Morning Shift: 8:00 AM to 2:00 PM
  • Afternoon Shift: 1:00 PM to 7:00 PM

• Friday:

  • Morning Shift: 8:00 AM to 12:30 PM
  • Afternoon Shift: 2:30 PM to 6:00 PM

Alternate Saturdays: 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM

The new holiday schedule will take effect immediately after the summer vacations, which conclude on August 14. Schools will reopen under the new timings on August 15.
