Punjab University Alumni Launch Scholarship Fund for Deserving Students

Punjab University (PU) has launched the Alumni Scholarship Endowment Fund (ASEF), a new initiative aimed at providing financial assistance to deserving students, enabling them to complete their higher education without financial burden.

The initiative was discussed in a meeting chaired by Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Khalid Mahmood, with key university officials in attendance, including PU Alumni Office Director Prof. Dr. Mumtaz Anwar Chaudhry and Planning & Development Director Prof. Dr. Hafiz M. Anwaar Asghar. During the meeting, Prof. Mahmood emphasized the importance of alumni contributions in supporting education and research, noting that such practices are common among universities worldwide. He highlighted that many PU students come from middle-class and lower-middle-class backgrounds, and the university is committed to ensuring that financial difficulties do not force any student to abandon their higher education.

Prof. Dr. Mumtaz Anwar Chaudhry elaborated on the structure of the endowment fund, explaining that it will not only provide scholarships but also offer interest-free loans (Qarz-e-Hasna) for a period of 10 years. This dual approach aims to give students the financial flexibility they need to succeed. Additionally, Prof. Chaudhry announced the launch of the ‘One Alumni – One Student’ program, a unique initiative in which each alumnus is encouraged to financially support the education of one current student.

This scholarship fund is expected to make a significant impact by reducing the financial barriers that often hinder students from continuing their education. With the backing of its alumni, Punjab University is taking meaningful steps to support the academic aspirations of its students, ensuring that financial constraints do not stand in the way of their success.
