Punjab Class 8 Exams to Resume in March with Computerized Marking System
The Punjab government has announced that Class 8 board examinations in government schools will resume in the second week of March. The exams will be conducted under the supervision of the Punjab Education, Curriculum, Training and Assessment Authority, marking the return of formal Class 8 assessments after a seven-year gap.
For the first time, answer sheets will be evaluated using a computerized marking system, aiming to ensure accuracy and transparency in grading. The results are scheduled to be announced on March 31, 2026.
The examinations will span two to three days and cover four key subjects: Urdu, English, Mathematics, and Social Studies. The Punjab government has allocated Rs. 1.6 billion to facilitate the smooth conduct of the exams.
To ensure proper administration, the authority has issued detailed standard operating procedures for examination staff. School heads will act as resident inspectors, senior teachers will serve as superintendents, and primary and elementary teachers will perform duties as test administrators. Examination staff for each center will be selected through an online system. Other subjects not included in the board exams will continue to be assessed internally by schools.
Previously, Class 8 board examinations were conducted by the Punjab Examination Commission, which was dissolved after five years. With the new authority in place, the government has reinstated the exams to standardize assessment and maintain quality education standards across the province.
The reintroduction of Class 8 board exams reflects Punjab’s commitment to strengthening academic evaluation and preparing students for higher education. The use of computerized marking is expected to modernize the assessment process while ensuring fairness and efficiency.
