Private medical college principals in Punjab have requested regulators to extend the deadline for filling vacant MBBS seats to February 28. The request came during a consultative session held on Friday at the University of Health Sciences, which also addressed refund and transfer policies for students.
The meeting, chaired by Ahsan Waheed Rathore, focused on the current status of admissions, the number of unfilled seats, and concerns raised by applicants. Colleges had earlier been given February 13 as the deadline to complete admissions, but several institutions reported remaining vacancies after that date.
During discussions, participants agreed to submit a formal proposal to the Provincial Admission Committee seeking an extension until February 28. The suggested change aligns with the recent revisions to the overall admissions schedule issued by the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council.
The session also covered student transfer and refund procedures. It was agreed that students who withdraw their admission by March 31 will be eligible for a full refund, without any deductions. Additionally, students wishing to transfer to another medical college must secure a no objection certificate (NOC) from their current institution. Colleges have been instructed not to delay issuing these certificates until February 24.
If the Provincial Admission Committee approves the extension, private medical colleges will fill the remaining vacant seats between February 24 and February 28. Officials emphasized that no further extensions would be sought beyond this period.
The consultative session highlighted the colleges’ commitment to ensuring transparency in admissions while accommodating students’ needs for refunds and transfers. With the proposed extension, authorities aim to maximize enrollment in private medical institutions across Punjab.
