Cloudflare Services Restored After Global Outage Disrupts Major Pakistani Websites
Cloudflare services have been restored after a worldwide outage caused disruptions across many major websites, including top Pakistani news platforms. For several hours, users struggled to access sites such as Geo, Samaa, Dawn, ARY, and ProPakistani, all of which rely heavily on Cloudflare’s network for secure and fast delivery.
The company confirmed that the issue has been fixed and systems are returning to normal. However, Cloudflare noted that some customers may still face problems logging into the dashboard, and engineers are continuing to apply additional fixes to stabilize remaining services.
What Caused the Global Disruption?
Cloudflare’s Chief Technology Officer Dane Knecht shared a detailed explanation on social media, stating that the outage was triggered by a hidden software bug that surfaced after a routine configuration update. According to him, this bug affected a service responsible for bot mitigation, which then began to crash repeatedly. The resulting cascade of failures spread across Cloudflare’s global network.
He clarified that the incident was not a cyberattack, and apologized to customers worldwide, acknowledging the scale of disruption caused. Knecht added that Cloudflare would publish a full technical breakdown soon, emphasizing the company’s commitment to transparency.
Impact on Pakistani Digital Platforms
In Pakistan, the outage created widespread accessibility issues. Many users reported that leading news outlets and popular websites were unreachable for long periods. Cloudflare’s CAPTCHA and Turnstile verification tools also malfunctioned, creating additional login and access errors across different services.
The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) stated that it had been monitoring the situation closely and remained in contact with global service providers as well as local operators until restoration was confirmed.
Cloudflare Dashboard and API Also Affected
Along with public-facing websites, Cloudflare’s own dashboard and API were hit by the outage. This prevented customers from managing their domains and security settings, further highlighting the scale of the problem.
Cloudflare’s Assurance Moving Forward
In his statement, the CTO admitted that the duration and impact of the outage were “unacceptable” and assured users that Cloudflare is already working on permanent solutions to prevent such incidents in the future. He stressed that customer trust is the company’s top priority and promised robust corrective measures.
