Police in Islamabad have detained a private school teacher who allegedly assaulted a student for not memorising a Quranic lesson correctly.
The reported incident occurred at a private school in the Kallar Syedan area, where the teacher, identified as Qari Muhammad Akash, is accused of physically attacking a student named Arman Asif after the boy failed to recite his Quran verses properly.
Authorities began investigating after a video of the assault went viral on social media, drawing widespread public anger. The FIR was registered on the complaint of Constable Kamran Yaqoob, who was on security duty nearby and received the disturbing video clip showing the assault.
Police confirmed that the teacher has been arrested and charged under the laws banning corporal punishment, which the Punjab government has strictly prohibited.
SP Saddar Nabeel Khokhar stated that a thorough investigation is underway and that the evidence against the accused is strong and undeniable. He further emphasized that such violent behavior towards students cannot be excused under any circumstances.
“Violence against children is a serious crime and will not be tolerated,” the SP remarked, assuring that the accused will face legal consequences as per the law.
This incident has once again highlighted the need for strict enforcement of child protection laws and greater awareness among teachers regarding non-violent disciplinary practices in educational institutions.
