Pakistan has warmly welcomed a fresh group of 30 Sri Lankan students who have arrived to pursue higher education at the country’s leading universities under the fully funded Allama Iqbal Scholarships for Sri Lankan Students. The initiative underscores the growing academic and cultural ties between Pakistan and Sri Lanka.
The students touched down at Allama Iqbal International Airport, where they were greeted by representatives from prominent institutions, including the National University of Computer and Emerging Sciences, Government College University Lahore, and Pak-Austria Fachhochschule Institute of Applied Sciences and Technology.
This scholarship programme is part of the Pak–Sri Lanka Higher Education Cooperation Programme, administered by the Higher Education Commission (HEC) of Pakistan. The initiative aims to strengthen academic collaboration, cultural exchange, and mutual understanding between the two nations.
Earlier this week, another group of 25 Sri Lankan students arrived to pursue MBBS degrees, highlighting a steady flow of international students benefiting from the initiative. With the latest arrivals, over 430 Sri Lankan students are now enrolled across various disciplines in Pakistan’s top universities.
Officials emphasize that the Allama Iqbal Scholarships programme not only provides world-class educational opportunities but also fosters people-to-people connections and cultural integration, reflecting Pakistan’s commitment to educational diplomacy and regional cooperation.
The continuous arrival of international students under this initiative signals Pakistan’s growing role as a hub for higher education in South Asia, promoting both academic excellence and cross-cultural engagement.
